Traffic Audit
Traffic Audit Offices are responsible for audit of earnings relating to Coaching and Goods traffic of Indian Railways.
In Southern Railway, the accounts relating to earnings of Coaching Traffic are dealt by Traffic Accounts Office situated at Tiruchirapalli (TPJ) and the accounts relating to earnings of Goods Traffic are dealt by Traffic Accounts Office situated at Chennai (MAS). Accordingly, Traffic Audit Offices are functioning at TPJ to audit Coaching earnings and at MAS for auditing Goods traffic. At present, the Traffic Audit Office at TPJ is merged with Divisional Audit Office/TPJ and the Traffic Audit Office at MAS merged with Divisional Audit Office/MAS.
At Traffic Audit, the audit of earnings relating to Coaching and Goods traffic are carried out through Local Audit (inspections) of stations (booking offices, passenger reservation offices, parcel offices, luggage offices) , goods sheds, sidings, etc. and through Central Audit (test check of records at Traffic Accounts Offices). At present, the compliance audit of Coaching and Goods traffic (local audits) are activity based taking into account the risk parameters and carried out as per approved Annual Audit Plan.
Most of the functions of Coaching traffic earnings of Indian Railways are computerized. Booking Offices issue tickets through UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System). Passenger Reservation Centres issue reservation tickets through PRS (Passenger Reservation Systems). Computerization of Parcel Offices and Luggage Offices through PMS (Parcel Management System) are in progress and issue of Railway Receipts and Luggage Tickets through PMS also commenced in select parcel and luggage offices. Similarly, most of the functions of Goods traffic earnings of Indian Railways are computerized. Goods sheds and Sidings issue Invoices through FOIS (Freight Operations Information System).
Officers and staff at Traffic Audit Offices are fully equipped with thorough knowledge of all the above IT applications implemented by Indian Railways.
