This office functioned as a Branch Office of the A.G., Assam from 1967. Since 18th November 1974, it has been functioning as an independent office. It was earlier located in a hired building “MALANCH NIVAS”, famous for its linkage with the royal family’s of Tripura and Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. In November 1989, the office shifted to its own building located at Kunjaban, Agartala.

Following a restructuring of cadres in 1984, the audit functions were entrusted to the Office of the Accountant General (Audit), Tripura and the Accounts and Entitlement functions were entrusted to the Office of the Senior Deputy Accountant General (A&E), Tripura. In 2011,The office of the Senior Deputy Accountant General (A&E), Tripura was upgraded to the office of the Accountant General (A&E), Tripura.
