R. THIRUPPATHI VENKATASAMY, IAAS
R. Thiruppathi Venkatasamy joined Indian Audit and Accounts Service (IAAS) of Government of India (GoI) in 2000. At present he is working as Accountant General (Audit)-II, Maharashtra, Nagpur and responsible for Audit of Transport, Public Works, Environment, Science & Technology, Finance, Energy & Power, Industry & Commerce, Information Technology & Communication and Law Order departments of the Government of Maharashtra. Earlier, he was working as Principal Director of Audit at India Audit Office, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and responsible for audit of overseas offices of GoI including Embassies of India, located in 20 different countries in East Asia and Oceania Region.
He has graduated from Agriculture College and Research Institute, Killikulam, Tamilnadu in 1992 and completed his post-graduation in Agricultural Extension from Tamilnadu Agriculture University, Coimbatore in 1995. He also completed post-graduation in Master of Public Affairs from University of Minnesota, USA in 2014. He has been recognized as a "Certified Internal Auditor" by the IIA, USA, as a ‘Certified Information System Auditor’ by ISACA, USA and has a certificate in ‘Auditing IT Controls’ from IDI, Norway.
He has authored a book titled “Thanikkai Thelivakkamum Seyalmuraikalum” in Tamil, meaning “Audit Explaination and Procedures”, which is a first complete and comprehensive book on audit in Tamil.
He worked in various field offices of Indian Audit and Accounts Department of GoI in different geographical locations of the country. Prior to joining at Kuala Lumpur, he worked as Accountant General of Tamil Nadu for about three years, where he was responsible for audit of economic and revenue sector departments of the Government of Tamilnadu, on behalf of Comptroller and Auditor General of India. He executed a number of audits on sensitive subjects. He is the pioneer in using drone technology and google earth map in audit of government programmes and institutions. The project using drone technology executed by his office in collaboration with Centre for Aerospace Research, MIT Chennai won the prestigious “The India Geospatial Application and Excellence Award” in the “Geo Smart India International Summit” during 2019.
The team led by him audited UNICEF, on behalf of UN Board of Auditors, its Global Shared Services Centre at Budapest, Hungary and South Asian Regional Office, different Country Offices in the region from 2016 to 2018 and its headquarters at New York.
He also worked as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, GoI from 2010 to 2013, and contributed immensely in the fields of health finance, public health and international health. He has rich experience in planning and policy formulation, financing and implementation of developmental schemes and general administration. He also has a wide experience in auditing, accounting and administration. He is determined to excel in public policy, public finance and public sector audit.
He has travelled widely across the world and has good experience in working in multi-cultural environment. He is proficient in Tamil and English languages and has functional knowledge in Hindi and Telugu.
